The goal of meditation is to create stillness.
An important part of the process of creating stillness is not engaging with all the thoughts that flood the mind during meditation. Here is a very easy to use meditation technique that is ideal if you are new to the practice of meditation.

Start this practice for a minute or two and build up to 10-20 mins if you can. With practice you will find that the process becomes easier and the mind is less interrupted by thoughts. You do not need to adopt just one meditation practice. Try different approaches for variety and to find the ones that resonate with you.
